Take your plumbing career to the next level with a Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services at Melbourne Polytechnic. This partial qualification can help you enhance your opportunities by developing the skills and knowledge you’ll need to apply for specialist plumbing licences. These skills include water, drainage, sanitary, roofing and gas fitting. Assessment is done through theory-based tasks. To complete a competency, you will be required to successfully complete an assessment for that competency. Please note - the Victorian Building Authority has its own licence assessment requirements that sit outside this course.

Recognition of Prior Learning

You can seek Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) where your work experience or qualifications of an advanced and related nature have been undertaken. RPL is individually assessed based on evidence submitted by the student to the teaching department. Applications for RPL will be assessed by relevant Melbourne Polytechnic trainers, academics and where appropriate, industry experts.

Melbourne Polytechnic offers a range of payment options to help you pay your tuition fees, so you can get on with your studies.

Fees displayed are effective for new applications received on or after 1 November 2019. Tuition fees do not include textbooks, course materials or overseas student health insurance and visa fees.

After initial deposit, international students are able to pay tuition fees in installments, four times per year.

Fees explained

The State Government’s Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative covers the cost of tuition (excluding Amenities Fees and Materials Fees) for students who are eligible for government subsidised training and enrol into one of the Priority listed course.

Free TAFE is available to eligible students for one course enrolment in a lifetime.

Free TAFE places are limited for this course in 2020. Please call 9269 8400 and we can advise you whether Free TAFE places are still available.

Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative covers the cost of tuition fees for students who are eligible. Materials and amenities may still apply.

The Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative will pay your tuition fees for only one course. Once you have commenced in a tuition-free priority course, you are not eligible for further tuition-free places again, even if you do not finish your first tuition-free priority course.

Concession fees are charged at 20% of the standard fees for enrolments in Certificate I to IV courses. To be eligible students must meet Skills First eligibility criteria and present a valid:

  • Commonwealth Health Care card, or
  • Pensioner Concession card, or
  • Any dependent spouse or dependent child of one of the above cardholders, or
  • Veterans Gold card.

The following groups are eligible for concession fees from Certificate I to Advanced Diploma level:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
  • Asylum Seekers and victims of human trafficking 

Additional expenses

Amenities fees are used to improve non-academic services including libraries, counseling services, student support, and recreational activities.

Amenities must be paid each academic year you are enrolled.

We will supply all training materials and the relevant Australian standards. You will need to supply your own basic writing materials, including notebook and pens

Requirements

To undertake the Certificate IV subjects and be eligible for a VBA license, you must have completed a Certificate III in Plumbing or be a registered plumber.
