What is Designing for Sustainability Net Zero & Circularity?

Our Designing for Sustainability, Net Zero and Circularity microcredential introduces learners to the key principles of sustainable housing design and the role of net zero and circular economy approaches in modern construction. It explores how design decisions can reduce environmental impacts, improve resource efficiency and support more resilient, future-focused housing outcomes.

Learners will gain an understanding of how sustainability principles can be embedded across the building lifecycle, from design and material selection through to construction, operation and end-of-life considerations.

Industry recognition

Designing for Sustainability, Net Zero and Circularity is delivered by Melbourne Polytechnic for the Construction industry and developed at the Future of Housing Centre of Excellence with input from industry partners.

Digital badging

Learners who successfully complete Designing for Sustainability, Net Zero and Circularity will receive a digital badge.

The digital badge provides a secure, verifiable record of achievement that can be shared online with employers and professional networks.

Requirements and recommended prior experience

Designing for Sustainability, Net Zero and Circularity is an introductory-level microcredential designed for learners with a basic understanding of construction or Modern Methods of Construction.

It is recommended that learners have completed our Rethinking Construction: Modern Methods of Construction microcredential or have equivalent knowledge. Learners should have a general awareness of construction processes and an interest in how housing can be designed and delivered more efficiently.

Minimum technical requirements

To participate successfully, learners must have:

  • Access to a PC or laptop computer
  • Reliable internet connection
  • Ability to access an online learning platform
  • Basic digital literacy skills.
  • Mobile devices are not recommended for assessment tasks.

Assessment

The assessment will be an online quiz in our Learning Management System. Learners are required to answer all questions to receive the microcredential.
