The focus of this exciting part-time program is to assist students identify areas of interest to enable them to make informed decision about future options.

Create your own Future Program

Create Your Own Future program was developed in partnership between the Work Education Centre, Inner VET Cluster (IMVC) and the National Disability Co-ordinator Officer (NDCO) program. The program is delivered over the full year for 3 hours a week. 

Students enhance their awareness of employment, volunteering, recreation and leisure and further education and training pathways. Industry visits are a feature.  Students investigate travel routes to excursion venues and broaden their understanding of hospitality, manufacturing, retail and trade industries.

Taster Program

Every year Melbourne Polytechnic offers the TAFE Taster programs at the Work Education Centre. This program allows people the chance to try some of the activities that form part of the courses before committing to enrolment.

The program is an opportunity to:

  • try life as a TAFE student
  • use TAFE facilities
  • build skills and confidence
  • work as part of a small team
  • experience activities designed to suit the way you learn
  • learn by doing
  • prepare and plan for post-school options

The programs have four sessions each and usually include:

  • masterchef class
  • intro to trades class
  • creative media class, including an animation project

A small participation fee applies. 

Discovery Day

Once a year, the Work Education Centre holds a Discovery Day for potential students in the September/October holidays. The day consists of an information session, tour of the Melbourne Polytechnic Preston campus, a sausage sizzle lunch and various hands on activities such as Masterchef, Basic Trades and Creative Media Arts.

A small fee applies for this event.
