The Work Education Department at Melbourne Polytechnic provides high quality pre-vocational and vocational education and training (VET) to students with a range of disabilities.
Meet our students
Our students identify their unique strengths and learning styles and explore opportunities to learn new skills that will enhance their employment prospects and improve their social and community participation.
Their participation in all aspects of Work Education Department training gives them and our industry partners a realistic understanding of suitable potential career pathways.
The opportunities and activities offered by our community partners also expand our students' experiences and networks which increase their ability to share their interests with other members of their community.

Where are they now?
The staff in the Work Education Department work closely with students with disabilities in a cooperative partnership in the delivery of a competency based training program. Our commitment is in meeting individual needs, assisting the student group to develop vocational, social and employability skills. Our approach is flexible, inclusive and supportive in a non competitive setting. We actively promote equality of representation and our commitment is to achieve a balance in the student group profile, to remove barriers on the basis of gender, ethnicity, race and age.
We are a learning department, a community and a business.
We commit to and value life long learning, excellence, honesty, respect and integrity.
We act with dignity in our relationships.
We respect by embracing individuality and diversity.
We create by developing pathways and opportunities to empower, build confidence and positive outcomes.
We respond by addressing individual strengths and needs.
We celebrate through acknowledging learning and achievements.
Every year we host a gathering for students from the previous 2 years. At this event, students and staff catch up, learn where they are now, and in some cases, students are linked in with new services if they are no longer actively linked with relevant services.
