Bring building designs to life

One of our newer qualifications, developed in consultation with industry, Melbourne Polytechnic’s Certificate IV in Building Design Drafting will provide you with skills for a career working with building designers and architects. Qualified draughtspeople are currently in high demand, with over 22,000 job openings predicted in the next five years. Graduates may work on a wide range of building design projects, including high-rise commercial projects, under the supervision and instruction of architects or building designers.

Study the technical skills for a creative career

At Melbourne Polytechnic you’ll learn practical skills to make you industry-ready from fully qualified teachers, who will ensure you are working in line with current industry needs. You’ll train in our specialist Design and Drafting classrooms, featuring visible building infrastructure on display for teaching purposes, including cables, pipe ducts and insulation. Study building information modelling with current industry-standard software and best practice in research and applying information from other construction professionals and compliance requirements to specific projects. You’ll learn industry-targeted methods of administrative support, including data collection and storage and file management. As a Melbourne Polytechnic Building Design Drafting students, you’ll join a community with a reputation for excellence, including Building Design Awards Victoria winners, acknowledged by industry for “drafting excellence”.

There are career opportunities for building design drafting professionals in a range of industries, including architecture, building and engineering. Job opportunities could include building design draftsperson, building design support, architecture support or architect’s assistant.
