With over 23,000 jobs in the industry since 2016, Melbourne Polytechnic’s Certificate III in Retail Nursery (Apprenticeship stream) is the ideal entry to an ever-growing field. Develop and harness your skills within the retail nursery trade, as you’re immersed in industry-led expertise that will teach you the fundamentals required to own and operate your own nursery. You will learn all aspects of caring for plant life, from planting seeds to the blooming flowers.
Melbourne Polytechnic’s industry-experienced and qualified teachers will guide your studies on plant placement and care, through hands-on experience and trade insights. You’ll train within our working retail nurseries and state-of-the-art greenhouses, expansive potting sheds, plant tissue laboratories, and well resourced libraries. Take the opportunity to participate in the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, thanks to Melbourne Polytechnic’s extensive industry connections and partnership with the Nursery and Garden Industry of Victoria, and gain real-world experience before you graduate.
At the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll be qualified to work within a range of retail nursery practices. You might work in plant production and maintenance, wholesaling and retailing of plants, or even marketing and promotion of plant products and services.
