Develop your own arts practice, express yourself in a creative medium, and learn about the arts business – our range of industry relevant courses will bring your career into the foreground.

Did you know that (according to the Australian Council’s Artfacts) Australian households spend more money on paintings, carvings and sculptures than computer games or sporting tickets?

The visual arts is well recognised and valued in Australia. Also with a growing computer and video game industry, illustration and computer design are highly valued work skills too.

Melbourne Polytechnic offers a wide variety of visual art courses that emphasise innovation, self-sufficiency and industry relevance. Our courses are taught by industry experienced teachers who are passionate about their student's learning. We have studios and galleries for you to develop and exhibit your work in. You'll learn how to market your work and yourself as an artist.

You will gain these skills and knowledge in:

  • Arts business practices
  • Advanced drawing, painting, printmaking and photographic techniques
  • Digital imaging
  • Health, safety and security
  • Legal and copyright issues
  • Selecting and preparing work for exhibition
  • Sustainable work practices
  • Thematically connected paintings and prints

We have two permanent galleries at our Preston and Fairfield campuses, with student exhibitions throughout the year. You’ll also have the opportunity to show your work in external industry exhibitions. Our graduates have gone on to become successful exhibiting artists.
