Community workers have relevant skills and knowledge that work with the community to promote and restore social functioning and advocate on behalf of vulnerable individuals.
At Melbourne Polytechnic, you’ll learn practical skills in the areas of casework, crisis intervention, understanding theoretical models and community services systems, cultural sensitivity, risk management, community interventions, prevention strategies, advocacy and supervision skills, legal and ethical issues and working with people from diverse backgrounds.
We have fully equipped practical rooms on campus that provide ‘real life’ settings to learn these skills. Graduates from our Community Services courses may find work in a wide variety of sectors including Indigenous and multicultural support, asylum seekers and refugee services, mental health, child and family services, counselling, emergency relief, youth, justice, housing and community development.
