Painting and Decorating


If you enjoy working with your hands and using your creative flair to create interesting surfaces, our painting and decorating courses are designed just for you.

We offer certificate courses in both:

  • pre-apprenticeship
  • apprenticeship

The pre-apprenticeship course is studied off-site at Melbourne Polytechnic's purpose-built building barn on our Epping campus. All of our apprentices are employed by painters, training both on-site with their employer, and off-site at Melbourne Polytechnic.

Develop your skills and knowledge in:

  • occupational health and safety
  • first aid
  • measurements and calculations
  • using power and hand tools
  • using small plant and equipment
  • reading and interpreting plans
  • preparing surfaces
  • levelling
  • scaffolding
  • painting by brush, roller and spray
  • understanding and matching colours
  • wallpapering
  • replacing glass
  • applying decorative finishes.

The training centre at our Epping campus has Victoria’s most technologically advanced facilities for building and construction.

Certificate II in Building and Construction (Painting and Decorating)
Climb the ladder to a colourful career. Work with your hands and use your flair for creating interesting surfaces with our Certificate II in Building and Construction (Painting and Decorating). Learn skills you can use across the building and construction industry, as well as specific skills in painting and decorating.

Certificate III in Painting and Decorating
Climb the ladder to a successful career with a Certificate III in Painting and Decorating. Own your own business or consultancy, or work as a contractor or for an employer in the building industry. A career as a painter and decorator will put to use your excellent hand-eye coordination and ability to work neatly and accurately. This hands-on course will give you the practical training you need to ensure you are an asset to any employer.
