With skill and craftsmanship, you can succeed in the thriving building industry – if you enjoy building and working with your hands, our courses will get you into work and give you great benefits!
From dovetails to finger joints, you’ll acquire skills in all fields of building and construction. Shopfitting is the trade of fitting out retail and service shops with equipment and fixtures. Stair building demands precise measurements and must comply with building regulations, while joinery is a woodworking technique found in furniture, cabinetry, windows and the like. Our Heidelberg campus has Victoria’s most technologically advanced facilities for building and construction, including our Technical Education Centre.
The pre-apprenticeship program offers you an introduction to joinery, shopfitting and stair building. The course gives you the best chance of gaining an apprenticeship in the industry. You can go on to the apprenticeship course to specialise in a particular area.
The apprenticeship courses advance your skills in joinery and shopfitting. You have the option to study off-site construction (specialise in joinery, shopfitting or stair building). The joinery course includes timber, aluminium and glass.
You'll learn about:
- Cutting and installation of glass
- Door and window construction
- Measurements and calculations
- Occupational health and safety
- Partition construction and installation
- Reading and interpreting plans
