Apply as an International Student

If you intend to study in Australia on a Student Visa, the application process is dependent on your current status.

Offshore applicants (applying from outside Australia):

  • You must apply through one of Melbourne Polytechnic’s authorised education agents.
  • Your agent will guide you through the application process and assist with required documents.

  • Your agent will then submit your application directly to Melbourne Polytechnic on your behalf.

Onshore applicants (already in Australia):

LOCAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants with recent secondary education (within the past two years)

  • Australian Year 12 VCE or equivalent with no specified minimum ATAR score and a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English
    *Senior VCE VM applicants are required to enter through a VET pathway (Certificate or Diploma) or undertake literacy and numeracy testing equivalency.

Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study

  • Successful completion of a Certificate IV course as minimum.
  • Articulation credits are available for specific VET qualifications.

    • Applicants with higher education

    • Satisfactory completion of two or more subjects in a degree or associate degree course
    • Applicants may be required to attend an interview.

    Applicants with work and life experience

    • Applicants without a formal qualification but with significant and relevant work experience will be considered if they can demonstrate that they can undertake the course with a reasonable prospect of success.
    • Applicants may be required to attend an interview.

    Higher Education Admissions Criteria

    As well as the specific entry requirements above, Melbourne Polytechnic admits students on the basis of the following categories:

    If you have already studied higher education: Y ou may meet the admissions criteria for higher education at Melbourne Polytechnic if your highest level of study since leaving secondary education is a higher education course, such as a university degree.

    If you have studied a VET course: You may meet the admissions criteria for higher education at Melbourne Polytechnic if your highest level of study since leaving secondary education is a vocational education and training (VET) course.

    If you have recent secondary education: You may meet the admissions criteria for higher education at Melbourne Polytechnic if you are a recent secondary education student whose admission is primarily based on the completion of Year 12 within the past two years.

    If you have work and life experience: You may meet the admissions criteria for higher education at Melbourne Polytechnic if you have work and life experience and left secondary education more than two years ago and have not undertaken vocational education training (VET) or higher education study since then.

INTERNATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Academic: Australian Year 12 or overseas equivalent qualification.
  • English: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no individual band below 5.5, or PTE Academic 47 overall (Listening 40, Reading 42, Speaking 39, Writing 41).
  • Additional Requirements:Applicants may be required to attend an interview
