LOCAL REQUIREMENTS
All prospective students must attend a group interview and complete an additional application form. The purpose of the interview is to follow up on the information session, pre-training review and LLN assessment to ensure students have a good understanding of the course and can meet some specific course requirements and if there are any areas where you may require support to reach your learning goals.
The additional application form must be completed prior to the group interview.
The additional application form asks if you:
- Understand that you are enrolling a course that prepares you to be a pathology collector and not a pathologist.
- Are willing to wear sleeves that are above the elbow to comply with Infection Control procedures in both simulated and workplace environments. This requirement is not negotiable.
- Are willing to take blood from other students and have blood taken from you. This prepares and enables you to meet the requirements of the compulsory core unit HLTPAT002 Perform Venous Blood Collections unit.
- Are 18 years of age to collect blood.
- Understand that the unit HLTAID011 Provide First Aid requires you to perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.
Compulsory Work Placement requirements:
- Be aged 18 years or over.
- A clear Police Check. This requirement is not negotiable.
- Be willing to wear sleeves that are above the elbow (either a short sleeve shirt or sleeves rolled to above the elbow) to comply with infection control procedures. This requirement is not negotiable
Compulsory Vaccinations
- Evidence of a current influenza vaccination
- Evidence of a recent Hepatitis B protection serology report confirming you have commenced a course of immunisation
Recommended Vaccinations
- Measles, Mumps Rubella (MMR) (if non-immune)
- Pertussis - Whooping Cough (dTpa) Varicella - Chicken pox (if non-immune
- Tuberculosis

Language and literacy requirements
You will undertake a pre-training review and a literacy and numeracy assessment. Learners will be best equipped to achieve the course outcome if they have:
- a minimum level of literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Working Level 3 Reading and Working Level 3 Numeracy
- A good standard of digital literacy
INTERNATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Academic: Australian Year 12 equivalency
English: Academic IELTS 5.5 with no individual band below 5.0, Pearson PTE Academic 42 overall with no individual communicative skill below 36, or Melbourne Polytechnic recognised equivalency.
English language ability equivalent to IELTS 5.5 (Academic) level.
