22 Mar 2013

NMIT has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with one of Malaysia's leading universities, the University of Technology Malaysia (UTM), to develop joint initiatives in equine studies.

The MoU provides NMIT with the opportunity to develop a long term relationship with UTM which is establishing an Equine Academy at their Johor campus. Initial discussions regarding future programs commenced in Malaysia last week.

"NMIT is a major provider of equine studies and takes pride in the quality of its training and its close association with industry,” said NMIT Associate Director of Earth Sciences, Wayne Pappin. “I am delighted to be able to join with UTM in the delivery of equine studies training in Malaysia, thereby providing international quality training while expanding NMIT's profile in the region."

The official exchange of MoU's took place on 11th April during the International UTM Horse Show. NMIT Board Director, Chris Watson and Deputy Vice Chancellor of UTM, Dr Wahid Bin Omar, represented their respective organisations during the exchange. The ceremony was attended by Mr Tim Dillon, Commissioner for State Government of Victoria SE Asia Business Office. Also in attendance was the UTM Pro Chancellor - Tan Sri Dr Salleh Bin Mohd Nor.

Later that day, Mr Watson and Mr Dillon participated in a media conference hosted by UTM Vice Chancellor Professor Dato' IR Dr Zaini Bin Ujang.

“NMIT has a long history in this (equine) area,” says NMIT Executive Director - International, Dino Bettiol. “Our programs already cover three countries, with several others currently in discussion. This also gives NMIT an entry into helping to develop other specialised vocational training needs that are a key to the 10th Malaysia plan."

UTM has also signed a similar MoU with the UK's Hartpury College.
