A career in the creative industries begins with a visual arts qualification from Melbourne Polytechnic. You can undertake a Certificate III, a Diploma or an Advanced Diploma in a specialised area of your choice. Your teachers will be experienced industry professionals, artists and freelancers.

As a graduate you will be ready to launch a successful professional career in the arts. You will be highly sought after by art and design industry employers, the higher education sector and commercial galleries.

Our Advanced Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design is a two year, full-time dynamic course delivered over three (3) days a week. The course focuses on hand-working skills and introduces high-level technical jewellery-making skills to promote individual attainment.

Short Courses
Silversmithing
Melbourne Polytechnic's Silversmithing short course has been designed for participants to develop general silversmithing skills. At the end of the course, students will have raised a bowl and forged a spoon in copper, enabling the student to go on to design and make vessels and smaller pieces in precious and base metals.

CAD for Jewellery
Melbourne Polytechnic's computer aided design (CAD) for Jewellery short course enables participants to develop skills relating to a range of jewellery CAD processes. The projects can be worked through by each student at their own pace and each project is designed to be completed in order from introductory to more advanced standards.

Children's Book Illustration - Introduction
Children's books have entertained readers for centuries. This course explores the art of creating images for different types of children's picture books by exploring basic drawing techniques, page composition and storytelling through pictures.

Intermediate Jewellery

Introductory Jewellery
Introductory Jewellery is a Melbourne Polytechnic beginner's short course, structured to introduce participants to the techniques of making simple jewellery. Filing, fabrication and soldering skills are included.
