Melbourne Polytechnic Trades College courses are known for their high quality training, industry experienced teachers, flexible delivery and ability to connect students to the building and construction industry. We have state of the art facilities at both our Heidelberg and Epping Campuses.

At Melbourne Polytechnic, we offer a range of trades within the building and construction industry:

Courses range from pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships and non-apprenticeships with pathways to further study. We can also enrol you in individual units to enhance your skills in the workplace, upgrading your knowledge within the building and construction industry.

Melbourne Polytechnic delivers high quality tuition to for you to pursue a career in the construction and design industry with a sustainable overview.

You will have the opportunity to work on industry recognised projects with highly experienced teachers, receive a flexible delivery approach and have the opportunity to connect directly to the building and construction industry.

The degree courses offered at Melbourne Polytechnic through Sustainable Design and Construction are:

  • Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil)
  • Associate Degree of Engineering Technology (Civil)

Melbourne Polytechnic's Sustainable Design and Construction department has the advantage of drawing on experience and knowledge from the Building and Construction faculty. Melbourne Polytechnic has a long-standing relationship with industry and its associations and has an exceptional reputation as a leader in building and construction training.

Students who have successfully completed the first two years of the Bachelor degree may choose to exit with the Associate Degree of Engineering Technology (Civil) qualification.

Certificate II in Building and Construction (Wall & Ceiling Lining) / Certificate II in Building and Construction (Painting & Decorating)
The Certificate II in Building and Construction (Wall & Ceiling Lining) and Certificate II in Building and Construction (Painting & Decorating) are offered in conjunction to help you launch your career in building and construction.

Certificate II in Building and Construction (Bricklaying) Pre-apprenticeship
Construct your future from the ground up with a Certificate II in Building and Construction (Bricklaying). If you love working with your hands and seeing something you built at the end of the day, this course is for you. Work towards becoming an apprentice bricklayer by developing the skills every employer wants in their apprentice. Our course is focused on getting you laying bricks and a solid foundation for your career in building and construction.

Certificate II in Building and Construction (Carpentry & Joinery/Shopfitting/Stairbuilding)
The Certificate II in Building and Construction (Carpentry) is offered in conjunction with the Certificate II in Building and Construction (Joinery/Shopfitting/Stairbuilding) (22338VIC). Build a future in carpentry, joinery, stairbuilding and shopfitting to become the apprentice every site manager wants to employ on a diverse range of building projects.

Certificate II in Drainage
The Certificate II in Drainage ensures you learn the latest drainage skills to be an asset to your employer and to complete one component required to become registered with the Victorian Building Authority as a drainer.

Certificate II in Electrotechnology Studies (Pre-Vocational)

Certificate II in Engineering - Fabrication

Basic Carpentry

Learn skills such as how to identify Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements and construction hazards.

Testing and Tagging of Portable Electrical Appliances
Are your portable electrical appliances and extension leads safe? If you need to be able to correctly test and tag portable electrical equipment, Melbourne Polytechnic’s Testing and Tagging course covers the principle requirements specified in Australian Standard AS/NZS 3760:2010 and AS/NZS 3012.
