Foundation Studies

The Foundation Studies department covers a wide range of English language courses, including English as an Additional Language (EAL), Adult Migrant and English Program (AMEP), Adult Literacy and Basic Education (ALBE) and the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program.

A foundation for your future

Our Foundation Studies department will provide you with an individually-tailored program to work towards employment or further study.

Melbourne Polytechnic is an approved SEE provider. All Foundation Studies courses are Austudy/Abstudy and Centrelink/Department of Human Services approved for job seekers. You can start courses at any time and there are flexible entry and exit points.

Study close to home

The Foundation Studies department is located in Melbourne’s Northern suburbs and taught at our Preston, Prahran, Greensborough, Epping and Collingwood campuses.

Courses
Certificate I in EAL (Access)
The Certificate I in EAL (Access) is for people who speak limited English. If you need to improve your English to prepare for study in Australia, this course is for you.

Certificate II in EAL (Access)
Can you speak some simple English, but need to work on your fluency? Improve your English with the Certificate II in EAL (Access).

Certificate II in EAL (Employment)
Improve your English while you learn a new skill. Our Certificate II in English as an Additional Language (Employment) will give you the English skills you prepare to work in hospitality, painting and decorating, or bricklaying.

Certificate III in EAL (Access)
The Certificate III in English as an Additional Language (EAL) (Access) teaches intermediate English language skills to adults from non-English speaking backgrounds.

Certificate III in EAL (Employment)
Do you need to improve your English to find a job? This is the course for you. You will learn intermediate language skills while building skills in a range of job areas.

Certificate III in EAL (Further Study)
The Certificate III in English as an Additional Language (EAL) (Further Study) teaches Academic English skills to adults from non-English speaking backgrounds.

Certificate IV in EAL (Further Study)
Are you from a non-English speaking background? Prepare for further education with the Certificate IV in English as an Additional Language (Further Study). This course will bring your English to an advanced level. It will also develop your communication and research skills to prepare you for further study.

Course in EAL - Foundation Studies
Melbourne Polytechnic’s Course in English as an Additional Language (EAL) teaches basic English to adults from non-English speaking backgrounds.

VCAL EAL YAMEC
Get the skills you need for a career. This course is for 15 to 26 year olds who are new to Australia and come from a non-English speaking background. If you have had a disrupted education but can speak and write English, this course is for you.
