Foundation Studies

The Foundation Studies department covers a wide range of English language courses, including English as an Additional Language (EAL), Adult Migrant and English Program (AMEP), Adult Literacy and Basic Education (ALBE) and the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program.

Our Foundation Studies department will provide you with an individually-tailored program to work towards employment or further study.

Melbourne Polytechnic is an approved SEE provider. All Foundation Studies courses are Austudy/Abstudy and Centrelink/Department of Human Services approved for job seekers. You can start courses at any time and there are flexible entry and exit points.

The Foundation Studies department is located in Melbourne’s Northern suburbs and taught at our Preston, Prahran, Greensborough, Epping and Collingwood campuses.

Courses
Certificate I in EAL (Access)
The purpose of this qualification is preparation for participation in further English language study or vocational training

Certificate II in EAL (Access)
The purpose of this qualification is to teach pre-intermediate English language skills to adults from non-English speaking backgrounds.

Certificate II in EAL (Employment)
Kickstart your career in hospitality, Painting and decorating or bricklaying. Our Certificate II in English as an Additional Language (EAL) (Employment) can provide support for you to complete your vocational course.

Certificate III in EAL (Access)
Our Certificate III in English as an Additional Language (EAL) (Access) is designed to teach intermediate English language skills to adults like you, who come from non-English speaking backgrounds.

Certificate III in EAL (Employment)
If you have a non-English speaking background, and would like to improve your English language skills then this course is for you. We can offer this as a dual qualification, so you can gain skills in early childhood education and care, health services assistance, education support, individual support and hairdressing.

Certificate III in EAL (Further Study)
Melbourne Polytechnic’s Certificate III in English as an Additional Language (EAL) (Further Study) is designed to teach Academic English language skills to adults from non-English speaking backgrounds.

Certificate IV in EAL (Further Study)
Melbourne Polytechnic's Certificate IV in English as an Additional Language (EAL) (Further Study) is designed to teach adults from non-English speaking backgrounds the advanced English language skills needed to succeed in further education. The course is suitable for those who have already completed or partially completed further or higher education, those who wish to upgrade their qualifications and those wishing to enter higher level qualifications for the first time. The purpose of this course is to develop communication and research skills and knowledge at a complex level.

Course in EAL - Foundation Studies
Melbourne Polytechnic’s Course in English as an Additional Language (EAL) is designed to teach basic English language skills to adults from non-English speaking backgrounds.

VCAL EAL YAMEC
Melbourne Polytechnic's Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) English as an Additional Language (EAL) Young Adult Migrant Education Courses (YAMEC) offers the perfect program for you if you’re new to Australia, aged between 15 and 26, from a non-English speaking background, and have had disrupted, or incomplete education but can write and speak English.
