Associate Degrees designed to meet the needs of today's Business Professional

Fast-track Pathways

Associate Degrees in Business at Melbourne Polytechnic provides flexibility and an earlier exit point than traditional 3 or 4 year degree programs.

Ideal for those currently in the workforce wanting to upgrade existing qualifications or new entrants wishing to gain a higher education qualification in as little as two years.

Graduates of the Business Associate Degree are practical, solutions-oriented and able to make a meaningful contribution to their profession.

Graduates of the Business Associate Degree may also directly continue their studies into Melbourne Polytechnic’s Business Degrees, or a number of degrees from other institutes or universities.

Associate Degree in Business – Specialist Topics

Students may elect to select one of two specialisation for the second year:

International Trade

Whether you are interested in import, export, logistics management, supply chain management or trading online, this specialisation will provide you with the skills and knowledge to enter the exciting world of international trade and business.

Specialist subjects in this specialisation include:

  • Business environment – ASEAN
  • International business
  • Supply chain management and e-business
  • Marketing research
  • International trade agreements, legislation and compliance

Management

All businesses require globally aware managers and leaders. This specialisation provides graduates with an entry level management qualification or a pathway into further studies into areas such as marketing, human resources management, accounting or commerce. The management specialisation provides you with an opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Organisational behaviour
  • Risk management, corporate governance and ethics
  • Human resource management
  • Quality management
  • Change management

Associate Degree of Business Electives

Two electives in the Associate Degree allow students to either specialise further in either management or international trade, or if they wish, to choose a broad range of subjects from any of Melbourne Polytechnic's degree programs. These may include subjects in areas such as accounting, agriculture and land management, aquaculture, education, equine studies, hospitality management, illustration, information technology, music, viticulture or writing and publishing.

Associate Degree of Information Technology – Specialist Topics

Students may elect to select one of four specialisations for the second year. These specialisations are:

  • Networking
  • Programming
  • Systems Analysis
  • Database Systems

Networking Security Specialisation:

A specialisation that focuses on developing and designing network security solutions and the technical and societal implications.

Specialist subjects in this specialisation include:

  • Network Design
  • Network & System Threats
  • IT & Business Fraud

Business Information Systems Specialisation:

A specialisation that focuses on the implementation of business information systems in particular contexts.

Specialist subjects in this specialisation include:

  • Enterprise Resources
  • Supply Chain Management & e-Business
  • Web Based Systems

Software Development Specialisation:

A specialisation that focuses on designing and developing software products on a variety of platforms.

Specialist subjects in this specialisation include:

  • Java Programming
  • Object Orientated Programming
  • Database Programming

Associate Degree of Information Technology Electives

Two electives in the Associate Degree allow students to either specialise further in either networking, programming, systems analysis or database systems, or if they wish, to choose a broad range of subjects from any of Melbourne Polytechnic's degree programs. These may include subjects in areas such as accounting, agriculture and land management, aquaculture, education, equine studies, hospitality management, illustration, information technology, music, viticulture or writing and publishing.
