We are pleased to introduce our latest post-graduate course - the Graduate Certificate of Creative Industries. The GCCI is part of the multidiscipline Master of Creative Industries program aimed at creative practitioners of all disciplines (we have graduates in Fine Art/Illustration, Music, Film Making and TV, Journalism, Photography, Graphic Design, Jewellery and Object Design, Curators and more).

The Graduate Certificate of Creative Industries will build on your creative networks, strengthen your knowledge of applied creative research, critical thinking and extend your practice with supervisory guidance from experts in your field. These skills are vital to succeed within the competitive creative industries – enrol with us to get ahead, and stay ahead.

Graduate Certificate of Creative Industries (GCCI) – Objectives

The GCCI is about getting YOUR high-quality creative work OUT into the world, both locally and internationally. The GCCI will help you consolidate your own creative identity while simultaneously giving you the tools to position your work in the real-world arts community. This begins locally, where you will become a part of the fertile arts community that is Melbourne Polytechnic, Fairfield Campus, a rich place for collaboration and creative-centric work.

In the GCCI, you will begin work on a major creative project with real commercial outcomes. You will be supported to test these outcomes via navigating creative theories, instigating professional project design principles and developing entrepreneurial and creative business strategies.

Upon completing your graduate certificate, likely areas of employment lie within creative enterprises, as an arts professional, a practicing artist, a self-employed arts entrepreneur or within the public service sector and/or academic creative arts related fields.

Become a creative arts entrepreneur, a leader in social innovation. Gain support in undertaking research in your OWN creative field. Connect with your creative arts community, both locally and internationally. Make it happen in the GCCI.

There are three thematic streams:

  • Applied Research
  • Creative Practice
  • Creative Enterprise and Entrepreneurship

There are three embedded exit points for the MCI, which are:

  • Graduate Certificate of Creative Industries (one semester/48 Credit Points)
  • Graduate Diploma of Creative Industries (two semesters/96 Credit Points)
  • Master of Creative Industries (three semesters/144 Credit Points)

Pathways to Further Study

Once you have graduated with a Graduate Certificate of Creative Industries you may choose to go onto further study our Graduate Diploma or Master of Creative Industries. Once you have graduated as a Master of Creative Industries you may choose to go onto further study such as undertaking a PhD in the Arts or other related field.

Materials

We will provide a list of required materials and books at the start of the course.

You will have access to PhD qualified staff, accounting software packages, journal databases and other library collections

Entrance Requirements

Successful completion of an undergraduate degree in a Creative Arts discipline or other appropriate area such as Arts Management, Arts Education, with a credit average awarded by a recognised university or TAFE. For more information, applicants are encouraged to attend one of Melbourne Polytechnic's Information Sessions.

Alternatively (for prospective applicants without a completed undergraduate degree) - candidates may enter the Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate by demonstrating a minimum of five years full-time equivalent work or creative practice experience in creative and performing arts or in an industry position related to creative and performing arts.

Pathways to further study

Once you complete a Graduate Certificate of Creative Industries you may choose to go onto further study such as undertaking a Graduate Diploma of Creative Industries or Master of Creative Industries.
