OQP Victoria is a course designed for skilled, qualified and experienced overseas professionals who require high level speaking and listening, reading and writing skills in English to gain professional employment in their field. Participants have specialised knowledge and technical skills and need to develop a higher level of English language proficiency and understanding of the Australian labour market and work place culture to successfully gain access to employment.

Students will receive a tailored program and learning plan which covers speaking and listening, reading and writing, literacy skills including digital literacy as well as employability skills in English.
This course will develop their communication and research skills as well as their knowledge of the Australian labour market. It will teach them to prepare and participate in oral interactions in a professional context as well as write and read complex workplace-based texts.
OQP is available as both a full-time (14 hours per week over three days) and a part-time (7 hours per week, one day and one evening) course. The program covers:
- CV (resume) development
- Analysis of position description and key selection criteria (KSC)
- Interview skills development
- Job interview and workplace communication skills practice
- Workshops on the local labour market and Australian workplace practices
- Introduction to Australian management concepts and industrial relations

Assessment MethodsThere are no exams. Assessment is continuous and ongoing, focusing on the process of learning as well as the competency requirements of the select units taken from the Certificate II in General Education for Adults curriculum.
MaterialsYou are required to provide your own pen and writing materials. You are provided with worksheets during class, and will have access to a range of facilities and services to assist with your learning and wellbeing while at Melbourne Polytechnic.
Entrance RequirementsTo enrol in this program students must have:
- An overseas professional qualification
- Work rights in Australia
- English language proficiency of working level ACSF3 / exit level ACSF 2
- Demonstrated overseas work experience in professional field
- Information technology competency relevant to qualification/field
Pathways to further studyThis program will lead to completion of 6 units of the Certificate II in General Education for Adults which can provide a pathway into completion of a full Certificate.
Career PathwaysGraduates may enter the Australian workforce as a qualified professional in their relevant fields.
