Certificate II in Building and Construction (Painting & Decorating)

From January 2019, this course will be offered free of tuition fees for eligible students under the Victorian government's Free TAFE for Priority Courses program, designed to reduce the financial barrier for students wanting to train in courses that lead to jobs in demand from Victorian employers. Do you enjoy working with your hands and have an eye for colour? As a painter/decorator, you could chase the sun around Australia or the world to work wherever you want. This flexible career choice could lead to starting your own business.

Our Certificate II course will prepare you for an apprenticeship in the painting/decorating trades.

You’ll gain hands-on experience in our painting bays which are fully kitted out with all the tools and equipment you’ll learn to use safely.

We teach a wide range of skills, including:

  • * mixing basic paint colours
  • * priming and painting with a rolled, brushed, or sprayed paint finish

Our subjects are taught in line with all OH&S requirements and you’ll have the chance to earn your ‘white card’ (Construction Induction Card).

On completion, you’ll complete be course ready to enter the workforce as an apprentice. You may apply for credit transfers towards your apprenticeship with the Certificate III in Painting and Decorating

Assessment Methods

Student assessment will combine progressive testing and internal assessment.

Materials

All theoretical learning materials are supplied as part of the enrolment fees. Some tools for practical work are required to be supplied by the student. The cost for your Construction Induction Card is included in the materials fees and will be deducted if you already hold one.

There are no formal entrance requirements for this course

Pathways to further study

Upon successful completion of the program you will be eligible for some Credit Transfers into your either Certificate III in Painting & Decorating (CPC30611) as an Australian Apprentice, taking you one step closer to being a qualified tradesperson.

Career Pathways

Graduates of this course may gain employment in the painting industry in an Australian Apprenticeship.

Skills Recognition

You can seek Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) where your work experience or qualifications of an advanced and related nature have been undertaken. RPL is individually assessed based on evidence submitted by the student to the teaching department. Applications for RPL will be assessed by relevant Melbourne Polytechnic trainers, academics and where appropriate, industry experts.
