The Advanced Diploma of Music Industry (Performance) is suited to those with significant performance experience and solid music craft skills.

Course outcomes

You will have over seven hours of weekly contact time in Music Performance subjects, including individual lessons, small bands, larger ensembles, workshops, and performance platform. You will present a forty-minute recital in a Melbourne venue of your choice.

You’ll also improve your music craft skills in theory, aural, improvisation, reading, keyboard, arranging, composition, and technology.

You will network with many other musicians and students in other areas of music industry and learn new skills in teaching music to students.

As a graduate, you can advance into the second year of our Bachelor of Music and gain credit towards our Bachelor of Songwriting and Music Production degree.

Industry connections and resources

Are you ready to perform in some of Melbourne’s leading venues?

You will have access to our rehearsal rooms, equipped with drum kits, piano, PA systems and amplifiers. We also have excellent computer laboratories with music software. Discover our theatre spaces with modern sound and lighting equipment and skilled student operators.

Our teachers are music industry professionals with years of experience. They are active performers, composers and arrangers as well as educators.

Assessment

You will be required to perform regularly and assessment will include a combination of hands on practical and theoretical tasks.

Employment outcomes

Career paths may include musician, singer, performer arranger, music producer .or music tutor. You may also find work in a music-related field.

Recognition of Prior Learning

You can seek RPL where your work or qualifications of an advanced and related nature have been undertaken. Academic Credit is granted on a case-by-case basis, according to our Academic Credit policy and associated procedures. Applications for Academic Credit will be assessed by relevant Melbourne Polytechnic academics and where appropriate, industry experts.

Pathways to further study

Melbourne Polytechnic provides seamless pathways towards higher qualifications. Upon successful completion of the Advanced Diploma, you will receive 12 subjects/1 year credit into Melbourne Polytechnic HEAASSPN Bachelor of Music, or continue your studies in the Melbourne Polytechnic HECABSMP Bachelor of Songwriting and Music Production.

Career Pathways

On graduation you can seek employment in the music industry as a solo artist, performer in a band, band leader, musical director, music teacher, arranger, producer or agent

Entrance Requirements

Academic: Australian Year 11 equivalency
English: Academic IELTS 5.5 with no individual band below 5.0, Pearson PTE Academic 42 overall with no individual communicative skill below 36, or Melbourne Polytechnic recognised equivalency.
Audition/Interview
Applicants will be required to attend an audition, interview and complete a theory test. Skype auditions available. Contact our International Office.
