Our Engineering Technology course offers two exciting Streams: Civil Engineering Design and Mechatronic Engineering Design. Our Industry Engagement programs allow us to offer great opportunities to enter the workforce or pursue further studies. Our course has obtained Provisional Accreditation by Engineers Australia.

Civil Engineering Design

Gain practical and technical skills to work with Civil Engineers in the design and construction of infrastructure projects.

This stream of the Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology allows you to work alongside Civil/Structural Engineers who are involved in the design and construction of buildings, bridges, frameworks, airports, railways, roads, dams and reticulation systems.

Mechatronic Engineering Design

Take your workshop engineering skills further.

This stream of the qualification allows you to assist senior designers, production supervisors and professional engineers who are involved with the design, development, evaluation, manufacture, installation, testing, operation, maintenance and management of machines, mechanical and mechatronic systems, automated systems and robotic devices, materials and materials handling systems, manufacturing equipment and process plants.

Entrance Requirements

  • successfully completion of Year 12 VCE studies, or equivalent, including units in English and Mathematics
  • mature age students with relevant experience may also apply
  • applicants without the necessary study prerequisite may be required to undertake additional bridging units of study in mathematics and communication
  • All applicants must have successfully completed the Diploma of Engineering Technology (22478VIC)

Pathways to further study

Melbourne Polytechnic provides seamless pathways towards higher qualifications. Upon successful completion of the Advanced Diploma, you will receive 12 subjects/1.5 years credit into Melbourne Polytechnic Engineers Australia Accredited program HEBETC Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil) Civil Engineering Pathways

Career Pathways

As a graduate of this course, you may gain employment in your specialised industry covering building and structural construction, steel detailing and fabrication, machinery/material handling or food and beverage production.

Skills Recognition

You can seek Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) where your work experience or qualifications of an advanced and related nature have been undertaken. RPL is individually assessed based on evidence submitted by the student to the teaching department. Applications for RPL will be assessed by relevant Melbourne Polytechnic trainers, academics and where appropriate, industry experts.

Students may be eligible for Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding.

This qualification aligns with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 6.
