Optical Fibre Endorsement

This Melbourne Polytechnic short course will provide a registered cabler with the Optical Fibre endorsement on their Open Cabling Registration. It is a mandated course for cablers who are required to install and terminate Optical Fibre cables in any type of building, for computer, data or telecommunications networks use. It is also suitable for security technicians who install optical fibre cables as part of a network for IP CCTV.

This course will provide the participants’ with the competency standards and ability to install, terminate and test optical fibre cable within a customer premises and to add the Optical Fibre Endorsement course qualification to the existing Open Cabling Registration (ACMA Cabling) course.

Topics include:

  • optical fibre characteristics and types
  • Work Health and Safety (WHS) procedures and safe handling
  • mechanical and fusion splicing
  • connector types
  • testing

At the end of the course, successful trainees will receive a Statement of Attainment for:

Students will be assessed through practical activities, written examinations, class exercises and demonstrations.


Students will also receive a free pair of safety glasses.

Career/study pathways

At the end of the course, successful trainees will be able to add the Optical Fibre Endorsement course to the existing (ACMA) Open Registration Cabling Licence.
