At Melbourne Polytechnic you will benefit from our qualified and industry-experienced teachers. You will have access to our specialised propagation facilities, purpose built greenhouses, expansive potting sheds, plant tissue laboratory and a well resourced-library.
The Nursery and Garden Industry Victoria (NGIV) is the peak industry body for the state’s horticultural industry. Students have an opportunity to work with the organisation through events such as the Melbourne International Flower and Garden show and at the monthly occurance of Trade Days.
We also have at your disposal a small retail nursery that will provide you with first hand experience.
There is a requirement within this course for a work placement component.
Graduates of this course may gain employment in the propagation, production and maintenance of plants or hire and sales, wholesaling and retailing of plants and associated products, provision of advice on plant selection and marketing and promotion of plant products and services.
Assessment is based on your ability to achieve unit outcomes. There is the opportunity for workplace delivery and assessment of competencies. Assessment methods include demonstration of skills, tests and assignments, folios, oral activities, and third party reports.
