Melbourne Polytechnic's Certificate II in English as an Additional Language (EAL) (Employment) is designed to teach pre-intermediate English language skills to adults from non-English speaking backgrounds with an individually tailored program

The course will improve your English communication skills and teach you to speak, read, write, observe and report in the workplace.
It will help you:
- develop job seeking skills
- interview skills
- understand culture in the Australian workplace
- participate in work placement
- write resumes
- write covering letters
- gain basic IT skills (word for windows, emails, web searching)
Melbourne Polytechnic is an approved Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) provider. This course is an Austudy/Abstudy and Centrelink/Department of Human Services approved course for job seekers.
Melbourne Polytechnic has an excellent relationship with many employers in childcare, aged care, retail, supermarkets, Northern hospital, golf course, and nurseries.
Your work-placement is organised by teachers with our employer network. This is supported with follow up paperwork outlining the rights and responsibilities of the employer, purpose of placement, Induction checklist, safety checklist, confirmation letter and insurance cover. Your teacher will visit you in the workplace and a report is completed at the end of the placement by the workplace supervisor.
We have network of employers to share with you and you will enjoy guest speakers and expert associations related to employment.
Former Melbourne Polytechnic students have obtained work after their placement and it is likely you will too.

MaterialsYou will need to bring your own pens and writing materials and will be provided with worksheets during class. You will also have access to a range of facilities and services to assist with individual learning and wellbeing while at Melbourne Polytechnic.
Pathways to further studyYou are advised to complete an English and study skills Certificate at Level III before going on to mainstream study
Career PathwaysOn completion of the Certificate II in EAL (Employment), many students have found meaningful work following work placement. Additional study in higher levels of English will provide greater opportunity for success in your career of choice
