Work education courses help build confidence and skills for entering the workforce. You’ll learn in the classroom and on the job through work placement. You’ll learn vocational and job-seeking skills as part of your individualised program. Personal management, teamwork and communication skills will help your future in the workforce.

At Melbourne Polytechnic, our qualified careers advisors and teachers will develop an individualised program to meet your interests and goals. You can choose from vocational electives including clerical, multimedia, introduction to trades, horticulture, introduction to hospitality, retail, performing arts and warehouse/packing. Melbourne Polytechnic’s unique industry partnerships offer excursions and classes to be delivered onsite in many areas. Plus, all students have the opportunity to gain real-life experience before they graduate, with 300 hours of practical placement, followed by an evaluation to determine your strengths and future goals. Your teachers will work with you at the end of the program, preparing a pathway plan to follow once the course is complete and assisting with active job searching. Best of all, class sizes are limited to ten students, so you’ll receive individual attention. The course also includes three workshops for Parents as Career Partners.

Assessment Methods
You may be assessed using an integrated approach. Learning outcomes may be grouped together and assessment of the module achieved through an activity that takes into account of all learning outcomes. Assessment methods will respect your individual learning style and may include discussion, demonstration, oral questioning, short answer, practical exercise, role play, recorded report and observation. Methods may be varied in response to specific learning needs. The integrity of the learning outcome and assessment criteria should be maintained

Fees displayed are effective for new applications received on or after 1st of November. Tuition fees do not include textbooks, course materials or overseas student health insurance and visa fees.
After initial deposit, international students are able to pay tuition fees in installments, four times per year.

Concession fees are charged at 20 per cent of the standard fees for enrolments in Certificate I to IV courses. To be eligible students must meet Skills First eligibility criteria and present a valid:
- Commonwealth Health Care card, or
- Pensioner Concession card, or
- Any dependent spouse or dependent child of one of the above cardholders, or
- Veterans Gold card.
The following groups are eligible for concession fees from Certificate I to Advanced Diploma level:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
- Asylum Seekers and victims of human trafficking
Additional expenses
The Student Services and Amenities Fee is charged at forty cents (40 cents) per student contact hour and is capped over a twelve (12) month period, effective from the enrolment date, to:
- $250 for full fee-paying students; and
- $175 for concession-paying students studying Certificate I, II, III, or IV.
Amenities fees are used to improve non-academic services including libraries, counselling services, student support, and recreational activities.

Requirements
Applicants to complete a Work Education program application for interview form, which will be followed by an interview.
To apply you will need:
- a Work Education program application for interview form
- to have an interview
- to be at least 16 years old
- support of family/advocate
Applicants for this program will have a disability, e.g. Intellectual Disability, Autism, Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).
Next Steps
Work Education students are required to complete and return an application form and attend an informal interview to find the best suited class and discuss any additional requirements that may be needed to support studies. All future students who have submitted an application will be contacted via email to schedule the interview between August and December.
Students will need to also organise a Unique Student Identifier (USI) if they don't have one. This can be done online. Please bring this along to the interview session with any other documents and identification required which will be outlined to you in the email.
